My trip to Austin was somewhat unexpected, but turned out to be an amazing and uplifting experience. I have family there who gave me an exciting opportunity to photograph the Whole Foods World Headquarters building for an office building of the year competition. The trip was planned in a week and I could hardly believe I was going! I left home at 5am on the 19th to catch my 745 flight to Austin. No Sweat!
I love looking out the window and trying to figure out what I am seeing. I remember the point where there was snow on the north side and no snow to the south. I feel the same way when in a car traveling through mountainous areas with a map on my lap looking at the peaks and finding out exactly how far from me they are and how high they are!
I got off the plane and went right to work on taking photos of the whole foods building!
I had never seen these cool escalators that lock the cart wheels in so that it doesnt fly away.
the management team looking like superheros!
their outdoor ice rink!
I got to experience a corporate holiday lunch!
These Agave plants are everywhere, I want one!
Then next day my cousin Tina took me around Austin to see some sights. We visited Mt Bonnell first
Then we visited a garden that had lots of palm trees and peacocks!
We took a sushi break at the mall before heading down the greenbelt to Barton Creek
If it had been about 10 degrees warmer, nothing could have stopped me from getting in this water! It was amazing out all day, as you can see by my clothing, but the sun was already getting low at this point. It certainly was not the snow I left behind in Indiana!
Then we hit up south congress(as I was told this is the ‘keep austin weird’ area) and walked around some shops. There was a band playing outside. We could never do that in December here!
Tina and I met up with Stefanie to see “I am Legend” that night. I LOVED it!
In the morning I woke up to seeing deer in the front yard! This is a very small group, they have had dozens at a time before!
I went to work that day with my aunt Rheta to take more photos. After which we went for a flight over Austin! My uncle is a pilot, he is the coolest!
oompa loompa?

These next photos have an interesting story, a few posts down I posted a photo of the trail of lights that I googled while looking for photos of Brookfield Zoo’s Christmas light display. Little did I know that it was not only NOT at Brookfield zoo, but it was in AUSTIN! I didn’t even know that I would be going to Austin when I posted that photo! Well my jaw dropped when I passed it in the car with my cousin!!! So we went to see the trail of lights and took a few photos there:
Then the 23rd was the day of the big Christmas party! All of my Texas family was there, I hadnt seen some of them in years so it was a great time…
